Honoring Sidaamu day of self-determination

Posted 6/18/2020

By Ibsaa Guutama

Today there will be no Oromo that is not happy for their neighbor and kin Sidaamaa. That this day did not come easily we know from what we had been hearing from Sidaamaa freedom fighters now alive and those that had passed. As Oromo freedom fighter we also know relations our organizations had. This writer knows partially efforts made in Sidaamaa education front. He remembers the struggle made to make Sidaamu Afoo language of education and work and for choosing own alphabet. It is not possible to overlook the day and night sweating of Amaanu’eel Dubbaala and Betna Huxxeessoo to make that realized.

Amnesty.org

Amnesty International has confirmed that at least 75 supporters of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) were arrested over the weekend from various places in different parts of Oromia Regional State, as Ethiopian authorities intensify the crackdown on dissenting political views ahead of the general elections.

The return of mass arrests of opposition activists and supporters is a worrying signal in Ethiopia.
Deprose Muchena, Amnesty International's Director for East and Southern Africa

“The return of mass arrests of opposition activists and supporters is a worrying signal in Ethiopia. These sweeping arrests risk undermining the rights to freedom of expression and association ahead of the 2020 elections,” said Deprose Muchena, Amnesty International’s Director for East and Southern Africa

Decolonization of Oromiyaa and start of new life with all rights restored

Posted 1/25/2020

Map Oromia and Horn of AfricaMap Oromia and Horn of AfricaBirth right is not negotiable: Political change should occur not only on the ground but also in the minds of actors. For Oromo change means decolonization of Oromiyaa and start of new life with all rights restored. Swindlers may distort this genuine desire of the people. Did Dr. Abiy notice that to say no compromise about Ethiopia shows determination of continuing colonization? It means denial of victories achieved through tremendous sacrifices and declaration of war to recolonize the south, which includes Oromiyaa on Ethiopia’s behalf. It is overlooking this, that caused bad luck for his predecessors. Article 39 of Ethiopian constitution was supposed to be the only safe way to handle such problems. Going against it by any power could mean hindering the possibility of peoples that were under the empire forming peacefully new democratic union based on equality and their free will.

Subject: Urgent Appeal to stop the killings of innocent civilians in Oromia/Ethiopia

We, the undersigned Oromo Civic and Professional Organizations, write this letter to you, because we are seriously concerned about the violence in Oromia/Ethiopia resulting from the government’s deliberate military aggression and occupation under the command post in Wallaga, Gujii, Wollo and Borana zones of Oromia Regional State, and the violence against Oromo students at universities in Amhara Regional State.

At a time when the country needs peace and stability as it moves closer to the national elections scheduled to take place in August 2020, the Ethiopian government is expanding its military operations in Wallaga, Gujii and Borana zones. In the meantime, Oromo students are violently attacked, some seriously injured or killed, at universities in Amhara region since August 9, 2019.

First, the Ethiopian government military operations in western and southern Oromia began shortly after the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) leadership returned from exile in September, 2018. Although the OLF agreed to participate in peaceful political processes in Ethiopia, the government deployed the National Defense Forces to Wallaga, Wollo, Gujii and Borana in December 2018 alleging to suppress armed OLF combatants. Instead of giving peace a chance, the government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed rushed to declare war, on small group of OLF fighters who did not disarm, without adequate consultation either with the OLF or other stakeholders. Nor did the prime Minister present the case to Parliament, as it is required by the Ethiopian Constitution before imposing a state of emergency on any people. But these Zones were placed under illegal military Command Post since late 2018.

Lawlessness in its best way in Amhara state, Ethiopia

The magnitude of lunatic acts in the Amhara state has already gone beyond a redline limit. Amhara state officials seem to have been enjoying atrocities orchestrated by their bureaucracy, security and intelligence apparatuses against minorities in their region and in the neighborhood as well. They can never blame TPLF or any third party for their folly acts while they could have stopped rampant terror and other forms of violence being committed before their eyes.

Open letter: Let us defend the truth, the name and dignity of our people

Prof. Mekuria BulchaProf. Mekuria BulchaUrgent attention!! United Nations and Eskender

Dear OSA members,
We know that the Oromo nation is being demonized daily by neo-naftanyas in the diaspora and their media in the name of the Amhara people. As you can hear in the attached radio interview given by Professor Getachew Haile, now they are accusing our people at the UN. Ironically, the Oromo people are being insulted and wrongly accused than ever before in their history by known Oromo-phobic individuals like Propher Getachew Haile whose hatred, false accusation and demonization of the Oromo people is well documented in his own social media and ”academic” writings. These false accusation should be met in an organized manner in public. Therefore,

Ethiopia’s Defense Minister, Lemma Megerssa, rejects Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s new party, EPP

Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’ and Ethiopia’s Defense Minister, Lamma Magarssa.Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’ and Ethiopia’s Defense Minister, Lamma Magarssa.Ethiopia’s Defense Minister, Lemma Megerssa, has voiced opposition to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s much touted philosophy of “medemer” whiles adding that he opposed the recent merger of the ruling party.

Megerssa is an Oromo, same ethnic group as PM Abiy. He stepped down as president of the Oromia regional state to allow Abiy to take his place and assume the position of Prime Minister in April 2018.

His opposition to Abiy’s disbandment of the four-member Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front, EPRDF, and subsequent merger into a national party (Prosperity Party) has largely been speculated on social media months back.

Haters went public without shame:

Posted 11/26/2019

Ibsaa Guutama

These days we are witnessing wrong information purposely fed to international community about Oromiyaa and Ethiopia. The source of such information are neo-feudal colonialists (Neo-Nafxanyaa). Some Ethiopian Orthodox church leaders were also seen taking part. This group had been brainwashed for generations that the Oromo are new comers and Habashaa occupation of Oromiyaa is legitimate. As a result, they create pretexts for not recognizing Oromo rights as enumerated in the constitution. They push the Oromo to be on the wrong side of the law. Daily they release false alarms blaming the Oromo for incidents they themselves intentionally create. They claim that churches were burned and priests were slain. They hoard weapons and ammunitions in churches for sabotage. They claim Taabot (tabernacles) had fallen from heaven to grab Oromo land it fell on.

Chala, whom the negtegna priests falsely accuse of burning churches and killing Christians had a meeting in a Protestant church.

Oromo Evangelical Church of Washington DC.Oromo Evangelical Church of Washington DC.Amazing....!
Chala, whom the negtegna priests falsely accuse of burning churches and killing Christians had a meeting in a Protestant church. This is amazing! But believe it or not, this is not surprising for the Oromo people. It’s just who we are! It represents one of our best values!
What happened today reminds me what happened decades ago. It was a sad and unforgettable story in the history of the Oromo people’s struggle for freedom. It’s about the killing of prominent leaders of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) by enemies in the early 1970s. The founders of OLF such as Megersa Barii fell in the hands of the enemy in the east part of the country.
The captors were merciless beasts who feed on the blood and flesh of human beings.
So, the Oromo leaders knew their fate was in the hands of their captors. They could be imprisoned, killed, or released.
