Not only genocide by direct massacre, we have seen a sample from recent video released by OMN cultural genocide against Oromo farmers surrounding Finfinnee, descendants of Gullallee, Galaan, Eekkaa etc. remnants of the first eviction. The eviction that has started more than a century ago is still continuing. People are denied habitat and children education in their language for the last 27 years. Ethiopia and Eritrea Have a Common Enemy

Posted 7/12/2018

Abiy Ahmed and Isaias Afwerki are racing toward peace because they both face the same threat: hard-liners in the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front.

Ethiopia’s new prime minister, Abiy Ahmed, made headlines across the world with his surprise move last month to resolve his country’s two-decade-long fight with Eritrea. The nation of Eritrea broke free from Ethiopia through a referendum in 1993, and the two nations then fought a bloody war that is thought to have left as many as 100,000 people dead from 1998 to 2000. The dusty village of Badme — which has nothing but symbolic value to either side — was awarded to Eritrea in 2002 by an international boundary commission created under a peace agreement between the two sides. But Ethiopia reneged on the deal and has doggedly maintained a nearly 20-year military stalemate to avoid surrendering the town. Abiy’s announcement on June 5 that he was willing to finally give up Badme — without any of the economic preconditions that the previous Ethiopian government had always insisted on — effectively ended the conflict. >>> read more

Could Dawud Ibsa of Shanee end up being the Abdi Illey of Oromia? Think the unthinkable.

Could Dawud Ibsa of Shanee end up being the Abdi Illey of Oromia? Think the unthinkable.
Gary Robson

Forgive me but pause and think.

Dawud Ibsa displays all the characteristics of a dictator. He loves power (surprising how he keeps going after being in charge of Shanee for 20 years). He loves money more than anything else. He is a businessman. He uses the trademark OLF for economic gains and has enriched himself and his relatives.

What is astounding is his refusal to fight when the Oromo youth were being massacred by the Agazi force for well over 5 long years during the Qeerroo uprising in Oromia. But why now?

You may recall his lame excuse that if he were to be involved Oromia will end up being “like Syria” and he accepted that the TPLF can kill the Oromo youth with impunity. >>> read more

Abiy signed an agreement with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki on Monday, formally declaring that the "state of war" between the neighbouring countries was over.

"My government is keen to implement the terms we laid out in our Joint Declaration so as to quickly make up for lost opportunities and create even better ones for our people", Abiy said in a letter to Isaias that was posted on Twitter by Abiy's chief of staff on Tuesday.

Also on Tuesday, Ethiopian Airlines said in a statement that the first passenger flight between Ethiopia and Eritrea would take place on July 18.

Is Oromia staring down the precipice of an era of warlordism?

For those of us who had been working tirelessly to bring the Oromo ‘political’ organizations together to unite them, witnessing the return of the so called leaders of Oromo political organizations to Finfinnee over the past few weeks doesn’t come as a surprise. What is rather surprising is the lack of sense of responsibility on display and the utter recklessness from these disparate groups - Oromo this and Oromo that leader. By the way where are their followers? Can a leader exist without followers?

The Oromo elders have warned these disenfranchised groups a long time ago. These message was brought to the diaspora in person by none other than Bekele Garba during his recent travel to Minnesota. But most of the self-appointed leaders did not take notice of this crucial message. The Oromo elders didn’t hold back in their warnings to these groups by saying “do not come back disunited and stay away from Oromia if you intend to import disunity.” What have the likes of Lencho Leta and Dina Nogo, Gen Hailu and Aba Naga, Gen Kamal and co did? Exactly the opposite of what the Oromo elders recommended. The issue is not these chaps have gone home but the problem is the fact that they pretend to be organizations.

B/General Kamal GelchuB/General Kamal GelchuNeedless to say that these egotistic individuals are day dreaming. They try to think they canmake a difference and people would take them seriously. How naive? They are not organized enough and lack the imagination that it is not easy to start from the scratch. They may be sympathized by their respective local communities but I fail to see what any of these guys can do to rally the great Oromo nation.

What’s more, the fact that five or six small groups land at Bole one after another says a great deal about their lack of sense of prospective. It sounds to me they are in the spirit of ‘faacha wal saamuu’. The problem is there is no ‘facha’ that is ready to be taken. The game is barely wounded. The TPLF system is not finished yet. To me now is the very start of a long battle. And the real question is what plan do these groups have in mind for the short and long term. Do they have what it takes to stay the course come what may or will they run away again as soon as the first shot is fired? They may have believed the rhetoric by the PM that there is no role anymore for bullets in the political arena of the empire. I am not so optimistic to believe that will be the case. >>> read more

Torture in Somali Region Prison Senior Officials Implicated in Nonstop Regimen of Abuse

HRW

(Nairobi) – Prison officials and security forces have arbitrarily detained and tortured prisoners for years in the notorious regional prison known as Jail Ogaden. Ethiopia’s new prime minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, should urgently order investigations into the horrific situation, and the government should ensure regional security forces and officials are held accountable.

“We are Like the Dead”

Torture and other Human Rights Abuses in Jail Ogaden, Somali Regional State, Ethiopia

The 88-page report, “‘We are Like the Dead’: Torture and other Human Rights Abuses in Jail Ogaden, Somali Regional State, Ethiopia,” describes a brutal and relentless pattern of abuse, torture, rape, and humiliation, with little access to medical care, family, lawyers, or even at times to food. The prison’s security forces, including the Somali Region’s notorious paramilitary force, the Liyu police, are implicated. The unit reports to the Somali Region president, Abdi Mohamoud Omar, known as Abdi Illey. Most prisoners are accused of some affiliation with the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), a banned opposition group, but most never face charges or trials.

“Ethiopia’s new prime minister admitted security forces have tortured Ethiopians, but he has yet to tackle Ethiopia’s culture of impunity and ensure accountability for abuses by the security forces,” said Felix Horne, senior Africa researcher at Human Rights Watch. “The horrific situation in Jail Ogaden requires immediate and transparent investigation into the actions of the regional president, other senior Somali Region officials, and the Liyu police.”
